Donaldson Dominates in 2-2 Draw at Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — After trailing 2-1 with 12 minutes remaining in regulation, captain James Donaldson (Kirkland, Quebec) netted his second goal of the night to tie the game at two apiece on the road at nearby New England Small College Athletic Conference rival Wesleyan University on Saturday. Trinity improved to 1-2-2 overall and 0-2-2 in the league, while Wesleyan moved to 3-0-2 and 0-0-2. The Bantams host conference opponent Tufts University on Sunday with an 11 a.m. matchup.

Donaldson opened the scoring up with an unassisted goal at the 19th minute mark to quickly put the visitors up, 1-0, on the Bantams second shot of the night. Wesleyan quickly notched two goals in the first half at the 25th and 41st marks for the 2-1 lead. The Cardinals played aggressive offense with eight total shots in the first 45 minutes, as Bernardo Simoes (Lisbon, Portugal) saved two of the four shots on goal.

After a throw in by Wesleyan, the hosts lost the ball to Donaldson near the midfield in front of the Trinity benches who launched a Hail Mary towards the goal that forced Cardinals' goalkeeper Mathis Blanc to leap into the air, but the ball narrowly slipped off his fingertips and struck the right side of the net in the 78th minute. The Nay & Gold held on to the tie despite Wesleyan's four shots, including one denied by a Bantam.

Simoes racked a pair of saves for the Bantams, while Blanc didn't record a save through 90 minutes of play. Wesleyan outshot Trinity 14-7, as the hosts attempted four on target and both shots on goal for the Bantams were successful.
