Field Hockey Edged By Tufts, 2-0

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College field hockey team lost visiting Tufts University, 2-0, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tilt at Robin L. Sheppard Field on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The Bantams dip to 5-3 on the season and 1-3 in the NESCAC, while Tufts improves to 5-0 and 3-0 in conference play.

After nearly 18 minutes of back-and-forth scoreless play, the Jumbos cracked the scoreboard on a penalty corner opportunity. On the attempt, senior Ashley Zolin (Greenwich, Conn.) played the corner to the stick of senior Kate Lee (Chevy Chase, Md.), who dropped a pass for classmate Andrea DelGiudice (Bedford, N.H.), who knocked a shot to the back of the cage, giving the Jumbos a 1-0 lead in the second quarter. Tufts maintained their 1-0 advantage into halftime.

In the 44th minute of play, the Jumbos played a penalty corner and the shot attempt from DelGiudice was stopped by Trinity senior keeper Olivia McMichael (Glenside, Pa.) , but a whistle in front of the cage led to a penalty stroke for Tufts. Jumbos senior Lainie Pearson (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) converted the attempt to put the Jumbos up 2-0.

The Jumbos edged the Bantams in the shot column, 10-8, and penalty corners, 6-3, during the contest. McMichael and Jumbos sophomore keeper Lydia Eastburn (New Hope, Pa.) each made five saves in the game.

The Bantams will look to return to the win column when they welcome Bates College to Robin L. Sheppard Field Saturday for a NESCAC tilt. Ball drops at 11:00 a.m.
