Field Hockey Falls To Bates In Overtime, 2-1

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Field Hockey team fell to visiting Bates College, 2-1, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) battle at Robin L. Sheppard Field Saturday afternoon. The Bantams slide to 5-4 overall and 1-4 in the NESCAC, while Bates improved to 2-2 in conference and 4-3 on the season.

Prior to the contest, the Bantams held a ceremony dedicating Trinity's new Field Hockey Press Box after former legendary Bantams coach, Anne Parmenter. Parmenter guided the Field Hockey program for 22 years, leading the Bantams to NCAA Tournament appearances in 2008, 2009, 2016, 2017, and 2021.

Bates looked to strike early but Trinity senior keeper Olivia McMichael (Glenside, Pa.) denied a pair of scoring chances. After more than 20 minutes of scoreless play, the Bobcats cracked the scoreboard in 21st minute as junior Anna Lindeis (New Canaan, Conn.) converted off a penalty corner opportunity to stake Bates to a 1-0 lead. The Bobcats held the 1-0 lead into halftime.

With 3:24 remaining in the third quarter, the Bantams found the equalizer as senior Katrina Winfield (Wilmington, Del.) fired home a pass from sophomore Maeve Hymovitz (Needam Heights, Mass.) on a penalty corner to even the score at 1-1. McMichael came up big for the Bantams in the fourth quarter, making five saves on Bates attempts, preserving the 1-1 score and sending the contest to a bonus frame.

The deciding goal for Bates came off the stick of Anna Cote in the 67th minute of action to give the Bobcats the 2-1 victory.

Bates outshot Trinity, 24-7, during the contest. McMichael registered a season-high 15 saves for the Bantams, while Bobcats sophomore Kaili Jacobsen (Fairfield, Conn.) made four saves.

The Bantams will look to rebound when they welcome Connecticut College to Robin L. Sheppard Field Tuesday night. The ball will drop at 6:00 p.m.
