Field Hockey Drops 2-1 Heartbreaker at Hamilton in Shoot Out

Maeve Hymovitz notched the Trinity goal in the third period.

CLINTON, N.Y. — Maeve Hymovitz (Needham Heights, Mass.) put Trinity College field hockey on the board in a 2-1 shoot out loss on the road at New England Small College Athletic Conference foe Hamilton College on Saturday. The Bantams moved to 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in the league, while the Continentals improved to 2-0 and 1-0. Trinity returns to non-conference play at Worcester Polytechnic Institute on September 12.

The teams remained scoreless through two periods despite Trinity's five shots as the home team's backfield stood solid with a block and a trio of saves by Abby Griffin in the net. Hamilton played an aggressive second period with seven penalty corners and nine shots, including five corners under two minutes without any fruits of the labor thanks to three saves by starting goalkeeper Olivia McMichael (Glenside, Pa.) and two blocks by the Bantams.

Hamilton evened the score at one apiece one minute into the fourth period as Hannah Dillion connected with the net off the pass from Alana King and forced extra time. The teams endured two scoreless overtimes before the deciding 2-1 shoot out, as Jackie Frank (Longmeadow, Mass.) was the only scorer for the Navy & Gold and two Continentals etched the win for the hosts.
