Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – The tenth-ranked Trinity College Men's Hockey team potted a pair of late third period goals to capture a 4-2 victory over host Colby College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tilt at Jack Kelley Rink Friday night. The Bantams rise to 11-2 overall with a 7-0 mark in conference play, while the Mules drop to 1-5-2 in the NESCAC and 3-7-2 on the season.
After a scoreless first period, the Bantams cracked the scoreboard with 16:59 remaining in the second period as the Mules attempted to clear the puck but it deflected off the skate of senior Casey Rhodes and classmate Kyle Tomaso grabbed the loose puck in the neutral zone. Tomaso skated into the Colby zone and found first-year Connor Sedlak on the wing, who fired a shot past Colby senior goaltender Andy Beran stick-side to hand Trinity a 1-0 lead.
With 4:04 left in the second period, the Bantams added to their lead as Sedlak won a faceoff in the Colby Zone, and senior John Campomenosi stepped up and wristed the puck top shelf over the shoulder of Beran to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Mules netted their first goal in the final seconds of the second period as first-year Michael McDonald received a puck in the corner and delivered a pass to the front of the net where first-year Dhillon Wilde knocked a one-time past Trinity sophomore goalie Devon Bobak to cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into the third period.
As the clock ticked under 13 minutes left in the third period, the Mules struck again on nearly the exact same goal as McDonald played a puck from the corner to the front, where Wilde raced and redirected the puck by a shifting Bobak to even the score at 2-2.
With just over three minutes to play, the Mules were looking to clear the puck out of their zone, but junior Eamon Doheny gloved the puck at the blue line to keep the Bantams alive. The Mules looked to clear again, and junior Nicholas Siffringer gloved the puck to his stick and found classmate Alexander Mozian in front of the net. Mozian snapped a shot that found the top corner of the net to regain a 3-2 lead for Trinity.
The Bantams sealed the win with 1:16 on the clock as senior Casey Rhodes potted a shorthanded empty net goal to send the Trinity to the 4-2 victory.
The Bantams edged the Mules in the shot column, 25-23, while Colby had an advantage in the faceoff circle, 37-34. Bobak stopped 21 shots for Trinity, while Beran notched 21 saves for Colby in the loss.
The Bantams will return to the ice Saturday afternoon for a NESCAC road clash at Bowdoin College for a 3:00 p.m. faceoff.
