HARTFORD, Conn. – The fifth-ranked Trinity College Men's Basketball team lead wire-to-wire during a 62-49 victory over visiting Amherst College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) contest at Oosting Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The Bantams remain unbeaten with a 20-0 record and a 6-0 mark in the NESCAC, while the Mammoths slide to 4-3 in conference and 13-8 overall.

Prior to the game, the Bantams recognized their three departing seniors: Sean Okpoebo, Dana Smith, and Ben Callahan-Gold.

The Bantams jumped to a 7-0 lead in the opening minutes behind a three-pointer from sophomore Henry Vetter and free throws from junor Will Dorion and Okpoebo. Leading 13-9 with 13:51 on the clock, the Bantams held the Mammoth scoreless over the next seven minutes as they extended their lead with a 16-0 run to hold a 29-11 advantage with 6:42 remaining in the first half. The Mammoths used a 10-3 run to trim the gap to 32-21, but Trinity closed the period with a trey from Callahan-Gold and a pair of layups from sophomore Jarrel Okorougo to take a 39-21 lead into halftime.

Trinity kicked off the second half with a 16-5 run, and a layup from Smith gave the Bantams their largest lead of the game, 55-26, with 13:17 to play. The Mammoths rattled off a 17-2 run over the next eight minutes to close the gap to 57-43 with 4:27 remaining. The Bantams halted the Mammoths momentum with a 5-0 run en route to the 62-49 victory.

The Bantams had three scorers in double figures, paced by a game-high 18 points, four rebounds and three assists from Vetter. Okorougo netted 15 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the floor, with four assists, four steals and three rebounds. Callahan-Gold chipped in 13 points, behind a game-high four three-pointers, with three rebounds in the win.

The Bantams controlled the rebounding column, 41-23, points in the paint, 26-18, and bench points, 22-20, during the game. Trinity shot 22-of-65 (40%) from the floor, including 9-of-27 (33.3%) from three-point range, and 9-of-12 (75%) from the foul line. Amherst connected on 17-of-47 (36.2%) from the field, 7-of-20 (35%) from beyond the arc, and 8-of-9 (88.9%) from the charity stripe.

The Bantams will be back on the court with a NESCAC road trip to Williams College Friday night. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
