HARTFORD, Conn. – #14 Trinity College Women's Ice Hockey defeated Colby 3-1 in Koeppel Center on Saturday evening, closing out the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) two game series undefeated. The Bantams rose to a 11-4-2, 4-4-2 overall record, while the Mules dropped to a 12-5-1, 4-5-1 record in the season.
Bantams senior goaltender Hannah Leclair kept the net empty in the first period denying all four shots the Mules took on her. Marta Mazzocchi and Martina Exnerova both took two shots on net but were unable to sneak it past the Colby goaltender. Trinity ripped nine total shots in the first period but was unable to break the surface to get them on the board. Score stayed knotted at zero.
Lillian Cassidy put the biscuit in the basket during a Bantams powerplay just three minutes into the second period. The sophomore redirected Anne Levia's shot that crossed in front of the net, perfectly putting it in the back of the net. Mazzocchi would capitalize off of a scrum in front of the Mules net lifting the Bantams to a 2-0 lead within two minutes of play. Colby would get on the board after a pass across the goal to open up the net just enough to sneak one past Leclair. Senior Jenny Guider would answer back to the mules after receiving a perfectly paced pass from Paige Kehoe to knock in the Bantams third goal of the night with just 20 seconds left in the second.
Leclair denied all nine shots the Mules took on her in the third period, freezing the score 3-1. The Bantams let off four more shots at Colby's net from Mazzocchi, Exnerova, and Angioletti but were unable to add any more to their final score. Third period wrapped up with a final score of 3-1.
Trinity was outshot by the Mules 23-21 on net. Hannah Leclair collected 22 saves in the NESCAC battle on the ice, the Senior put on an amazing performance for the Bantams closing out a 2-0 weekend against Colby.
The Bantams will host Williams College on Friday, February 2nd in Koeppel Center for a 7:30PM NESCAC matchup on the ice.
