#1 Trinity Women's Squash Stay Victorious, Defeat Columbia 8-1

NEW YORK, NY. – #1 Women's Squash handed out another loss as they downed Columbia University 8-1 on the hardwood in SL Green Street Squash Courts on Sunday afternoon. The Bantams are 8-0 in the season, while Columbia lowers to a 2-6 overall.

The day began with a three set sweep from Lions Chan Sin yuk, junior Malak Ashraf Kamal had a slow start in the match, finding her footing in the third but was unable to keep the ball in play (11-4, 11-5, 12-10). Junior Janna El Ashmawy (11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 6-11), and Kara Lincou (8-11, 11-4, 7-11, 11-13) both defeated their opponents in four sets, collecting the first match wins on the hardwood for the Bantams.

Senior Madeleine Hylland took the first two sets by storm, wavering in the third giving the Lions a set point (2-1). Hylland would step back on the hardwood for the fourth set denying Columbias' Erica McGillicuddy a chance to add more than three points in the battle, Bantams senior would win 3-1 with set scores of 5-11, 9-11, 11-9, 3-11. Fabiola Cabello swept her Lions opponent with a quick twenty one minute court time, set scores 9-11, 4-11, 7-11. Junior Lulu Palacios Benitez collected the first two set points, the junior was bested in the third set but had a fourth set rebuttal to close out the sixth match of the day. Palacios Benitez assembled set scores of 7-11, 11-13, 11-9, 12-14. 

Hannah Chukwu held her opponent to four or less points in her three set victory (4-11, 4-11, 2-11).  Nouran Youssef finished shortly after Chukwu, accumulating the seventh Bantam victory of the day (6-11, 11-6, 5-11, 9-11).  With a final victory from Noa Romero (8-11, 11-9, 8-11, 12-10, 11-4) the bantams would finish the day with their second 8-1 match win of the weekend.

The Bantams host Princeton University on Saturday, February 3rd in the George A. Kellner Squash Courts at 1PM.
