HOLDERNESS, N.H. – The #13 Trinity College Women's Hockey team shut out host Plymouth State, 3-0, in a non-conference game at Hanaway Rink Tuesday afternoon. The Bantams rise to 7-3-2 on the season, while the Panthers drop to a 3-10 mark.
Less than six minutes into the opening period, senior Jenny Guider played a puck up the boards into the neutral zone, where junior Martina Exnerova grabbed the puck, skated into the Panthers zone, beat a defender and lifted a backhander past Panthers goaltender Teagan Wilson to hand Trinity a 1-0 lead.
With 10:51 to play in the second period, the Bantams won the faceoff in the Plymouth State zone, swung the puck around the point where junior Annika Dyczkowski ripped a shot on net. Wilson denied the shot from Dyczkowski, but the rebound landed at the stick of senior Hannah Feinberg, who tucked a shot past Wilson to push Trinity ahead 2-0.
Just over three minutes later, the Bantams showed off some nifty puck movement as sophomore Ava Gosnell played a cross-ice pass to classmate Emma Robertson, who one-timed a pass to first year Marta Mazzocchi at the far post for the finish, extending the Bantams lead to 3-0.
The Bantams dominated the Panthers in the shot column, 38-18, and won the faceoff battle, 28-26. Trinity senior goalie Hannah Leclair made 18 saves in her fifth shutout of the season, while Wilson stopped a game-high 35 shots for the Panthers.
Trinity returns to the ice when they host Suffolk University in a non-conference tilt Saturday afternoon at the Koeppel Community Sports Center. Puck drops at 4:00 p.m.
