Bantams Fall to Polar Bears in NESCAC Clash

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Field Hockey team suffered a setback against Bowdoin College, falling 2-0 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) match. This loss brings Trinity's overall record to 4-6 and 0-6 in conference play, while Bowdoin improves to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the NESCAC.

In the first half, Bantams rookie goalkeeper Sydney Korkozs showcased her skills, turning away six shots on goal and keeping Bowdoin scoreless. The Trinity defense also held strong, blocking shooting lanes and limiting the Polar Bears to seven shots in the first half.

Trinity's offense had a limited impact, earning just one corner and managing two shots in the first quarter. Senior Ashley Zigler's attempt went wide, while senior Izzy Deveney had a shot on target during a penalty corner that was thwarted by a Bowdoin defender.

The game shifted in Bowdoin's favor in the third quarter, where Maddie Mrva scored off a hard drive during a penalty corner in the final seconds of the third. Early in the fourth quarter, Maya Malenfant extended Bowdoin's lead with a goal set up by an endline pass.

Despite a late opportunity for Trinity with a penalty corner in the 57th minute, Deveney's effort was again denied by Bowdoin's defense. The Polar Bears outshot Trinity significantly, 26-6, with a commanding 12-to-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Next up, the Bantams will head to New London, Conn., for another NESCAC matchup against Connecticut College on Tuesday, October 15th, at 7 PM.
