HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Field Hockey team hosted Amherst College in their regular season finale, falling narrowly 2-1. With this defeat, the Bantams finished the season at 5-10 overall and 1-9 in the NESCAC, while the Mammoths improved to 9-6 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
The game showcased evenly matched play, with most action occurring in the midfield. Amherst capitalized on two opportunities—one in the first quarter and another in the second—to take a 2-0 lead at halftime. Justine Ligouri opened the scoring for the Mammoths at the 6:40 mark, followed by Carlone Busier's goal at 27:33.
Trinity was unable to surpass the Mammoths defensive line, managing only one shot on goal, which came from Izzy Deveney on a penalty corner that was saved by Amherst goalkeeper Grace Puchalski. The Mammoths had 8 shots on goal and secured two penalty corners, matching the Bantams' corner opportunities.
The Bantams fought back in the second half, with Nina Falkson scoring Trinity's first goal at 37:40. After a quick 16-yard restart, Claire Griffith advanced the ball into the Mammoths' defensive zone. She flicked it to first-year Tatum Stickney, who attempted a reverse sweep that crossed the goal line, allowing Falkson to tip it in and narrow the gap to one goal.
Despite valiant efforts from Deveney, Griffith, and Stickney to equalize, the Bantams were unable to score again, succumbing to the 2-1 defeat.
Trinity's goalkeeping was shared among three players: Sydney Korkosz started the match with 4 saves in 30 minutes, followed by Annie Raduazzo with 2 saves in 15 minutes, and Hayley Gable, who recorded 2 saves in the final quarter.
Amherst outshot Trinity 17-7, holding an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal, and led in corner opportunities 5-4.
