Bantams Fall to Jumbos in 6-0 NESCAC Defeat

MEDFORD, Mass.– The Trinity College Women's Soccer team fell to Tufts University, 6-0, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) match at Bello Field on Saturday afternoon. With this loss, the Bantams' record drops to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play, while the Jumbos improve to 3-2-1 in the NESCAC and 6-2-1 overall.

Tufts opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a goal from Rachel Arcella. Caroline Kelly doubled the lead in the 24th minute, and Audrey Cromett added a third goal for the Jumbos in the 34th minute. The Bantams managed six shots from Jill Fisher, Sara Rieger, Emma Almoney, and Iva Carton, but were unable to find the back of the net. Sami Olsen and Nina Sharp also attempted to score in the closing minutes of the half, but their efforts fell short. Trinity trailed 3-0 at halftime.

The Jumbos extended their lead with three goals in a five-minute span from Kelly, Emily Nicholas, and Elsi Aires, bringing the score to 6-0 with just over 30 minutes remaining in the match.

Trinity junior forward Elena Lindonen had a chance to put the Bantams on the scoreboard but sent her shot just over the crossbar.

Tufts dominated the shot count, outshooting Trinity 26-7 throughout the match. The Bantams' goalkeepers split time in net, with first-year Zoe Tamborello recording four saves in 28 minutes, while fellow first-year Lily Bracken made two saves over 61 minutes of play.

Trinity will return to their home field on Tuesday, October 8, as they host Wesleyan University at 6 PM.
