Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match Over Worcester State & Nichols

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Volleyball team swept a pair of non-conference matches, posting 3-0 victories over Worcester State and Nichols College Saturday afternoon at Oosting Gymnasium. The Bantams improve to 14-2 on the season, while the Lancers move to 5-12 and the Bison sit at 3-9 overall.
 
 
Match 1: Trinity 3, Worcester State 0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-12)
The Bantams delivered a balanced offensive attack in their opening win over the Lancers with six players registered at least five kills. Senior Eva Lekovic tallied a match-high 10 kills with three digs and a block, while junior Ellie Gordon and sophomore Chloe Gentile chipped in nine kills apiece. Senior Bella Caffuzzi added eight kills and block, and classmate Ava Boloyan notched seven kills with four digs. Junior Caroline Howell dished out a match-high 20 assists, and senior Grace Sullivan added 14 assists. Sophomore Scarlett Jago snared a match-high 13 digs, while junior Maggie Barnes and sophomore Bella Nash each delivered a pair of service aces.
 
Junior Cassidy D'Esposito led Worcester State with a team-high seven kills. Senior Angela Colonis had a team-high 10 assists with five kills, while graduate Maeve Cadogan posted four kills with an assist.
 
 
Match 2: Trinity 3, Nichols 0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-16)
The Bantams rallied from early deficits in all three sets en route to the sweep. Lekovic slammed a team-high nine kills with five digs and three blocks, while Gordon and Gentile recorded seven kills apiece. First-year Annette Schlunk added six digs and five kills, and Jago grabbed a match-high 12 digs. Howell doled out a match-high 21 assists, while Sullivan had 12 assists, four digs, two kills and two service aces.
 
Nichols senior Luna Colozzo registered a match-high 11 kills with seven digs to lead the Bison. Junior Mairead Frost added eight digs and six kills, while classmate Kya Burdier had five kills, three digs and two aces in the loss.
 
The Bantams will be back on the court when they host Tufts in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tilt Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
