Box Score AMHERST, Mass. – The eighth-ranked Trinity College Men's Ice Hockey squad battled host Amherst College to a 2-2 tie in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash at Orr Rink Saturday night. The Mammoths won the shootout, 2-0. The Bantams move to 1-1-1 on the season, while Amherst sits at 0-1-1 overall.
Â
Scoreless with 8:50 remaining in the second period, the Bantams cracked the scoreboard on a power-play as sophomore
Connor Sedlak attempted a wrap-around shot, which was denied by Amherst senior goaltender Connor Leslie. Sedlak stuck with the puck and chipped it to first-year
Weston Turner at the blue line, who quickly fed senior
Eamon Doheny across ice, and Doheny skated toward the faceoff circle and ripped a wrist shot over the shoulder of Leslie to give Trinity the 1-0 lead.
Â
The Mammoths potted the equalizer, capitalizing on a power play on nearly an identical play at the Bantams goal as junior Josh Burke connected with classmate Andrew Carmody for the finish to even the score at 1-1. Trinity regained control in the final minute of the period as Turner registered his first career goal, putting back a rebounded shot off a saved shot from junior
Spencer Korona to give the Bantams a 2-1 lead after two periods.
Â
Amherst took advantage of another Bantams penalty early in the third period as Carmody struck again, firing a one-time off the pass from Burke to knot the score at 2-2 with 15:54 on the clock.
Â
Trinity junior goaltender
Devon Bobak came up huge for the Bantams in the overtime period after an early penalty put the Bantams a man-down for a chunk of the bonus frame. Bobak logged seven saves during the overtime, including six saves during the Mammoths power-play to force the shootout. Burke and senior Ben Kuzma scored for Amherst during the shootout to send the Mammoths to the shootout win.

The Bantams will be back on the ice when they travel to Hamilton College for a NESCAC tilt Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Amherst hosts Wesleyan Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
