WESLEY CHAPEL, FL – The #12-ranked Trinity College Women's Ice Hockey team suffered their first loss of the season on Friday evening, falling 3-1 to #5-ranked Adrian College at the Sunshine Turkey Classic, held at the AdventHealth Center Ice in Wesley Chapel, Fla. Trinity now holds a 5-1 overall record, while Adrian improves to 7-1.
The Bulldogs struck early, with Tia Lascelle scoring just 53 seconds into the game, assisted by Carly Carpenter. Trinity responded with several attempts on Adrian goaltender Annie Gilbert, four shots were turned aside, and two others were blocked by Adrian skaters. The Bantams eventually found the equalizer at the 10:37 mark when Martina Exnerova finished off a pass from Marta Mazzocchi, who slid the puck across from the side boards to knot the score at 1-1 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first period.
The second period was scoreless, with both teams battling through a tightly contested 20 minutes. Adrian outshot Trinity 6-4 on goal during the period, and 27-10 overall. Bantam sophomore goaltender Madeline Carter kept the game even, making six saves in the period to maintain the 1-1 tie heading into the third.
Adrian broke the deadlock in the third period, scoring twice to secure a 3-1 victory. Despite strong defensive play from the Bantams, who blocked 16 shots to Adrian's 8, Trinity was unable to find the equalizer. Both teams were successful on the penalty kill, with Adrian going 0-for-3 on the power play and the Bantams finishing 0-for-2.
Adrian registered 20 shots on goal, while Trinity managed 15. Anne Levia led the Bantams defensively, recording a team-high 4 blocked shots.
Trinity will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon when they face #13-ranked Norwich University at 1 p.m. in their next Sunshine Turkey Classic matchup.
