HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Basketball team fell to visiting 16
th-ranked Smith College, 74-49, in a non-conference clash at Oosting Gymnasium Sunday afternoon. The Bantams suffer their first loss, falling to 5-1 on the season, while the Pioneers improved to 5-1 overall.

Junior
Theresa Twardosky led the Bantams with a team-high 12 points and four rebounds. Sophomore
Madi Forman grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds with nine points and two blocks, while junior
Melissa Whitmore tallied six points, five rebounds and three assists.

The Pioneers had four scorers in double figures, paced by a double-double from sophomore Hannah Martin with a game-high 19 points, a team-high 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Senior Jane Loo netted 17 points with seven rebounds and four assists, while graduate Ally Landau added 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Senior Jazmyn Washington had 11 points and six rebounds in the win.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth period featuring eight lead changes and four ties as Trinity took an early 6-2 lead. Tied at 6-6, Loo scored four points while Forman recorded three points as the squads took an 11-11 score into the second quarter.

Smith began to create separation in the second quarter, opening the frame on a 12-3 run, powered by six points from Martin, to hold a 23-14 lead at the 6:37 mark. Back-to-back buckets from Forman and triple from Twardosky helped close the gap to 25-23 with 2:22 on the clock. Smith took a 29-25 lead into halftime.

Whitmore knocked down a three-pointer to kick off the third quarter as Trinity pulled within a point, 29-28, but Smith pulled away with a 19-2 run over the next six minutes, featuring seven points from Martin and five points from Loo, to take a 48-30 advantage. Trinity outscored the Pioneers, 12-8, over the final three minutes to set the score at 56-42 entering the fourth quarter. Smith outscored the Bantams, 18-7, in the fourth quarter to capture the 74-49 win.

The Bantams edged the Pioneers in the rebounding column, 39-32, while Smith controlled the paint, 40-24. The Trinity bench outscored the Pioneer reserves, 20-7. The Bantams connected on 19-of-58 (32.8%) from the floor, 6-of-25 (24%) from three-point and 5-of-9 from the charity stripe. Smith shot 30-of-67 (44.8%) from the field, including 5-of-17 (29.4%) from beyond the arc and 9-of-15 (60%) from the foul line.

Trinity will look to get back in the win column when they travel to Coast Guard Academy for a non-conference game Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
