Women's Hockey NESCAC Quarterfinal Preview: #4 Hamilton

HARTFORD, Conn. – The fifth-seeded Trinity College Women's Hockey team will visit four-seed Hamilton College in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship Quarterfinals at the Russell Sage Rink in Clinton, New York on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
 
Bantam Bytes
  • The Bantams closed out the 2023-24 season with a 15-6-2 record, winning four of their last six games.
  • Trinity received the fifth-seed in the tournament after posting a 8-6-2 record in NESCAC play.
  • The Bantams checked in at tenth in the latest edition of the U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) Division III Women's Hockey Poll.
  • In conference, Trinity ranks third in points (134), points per game (5.83), goals (56) and goals per game (2.43).
  • The Bantams are fourth in assists (78) and assists per game (3.39).
  • Trinity owns the fourth-best penalty kill unit with a .946 success rate, killing off 70 of 74 chances on the season.
  • The Bantams power-play unit is converting at a .178 clip with 13 power-play goals, second-most in the NESCAC.
  • Senior Jenny Guider is the second-leading scorer in the conference with 14 goals and ranks fifth in points with 19.
  • Junior Martina Exnerova and first-year Marta Mazzocchi have potted eight goals apiece, ranking tenth in the NESCAC.
  • Junior Paige Kehoe ranks sixth in conference in assists with 12.
  • Senior goaltender Hannah Leclair is third in goals against average (1.22) and saves (468), along with a .947 save percentage.
  • The Bantams are 20-22-5 against Hamilton College since their first meeting in the 1999-2000 season.
 
Scouting the Continentals
  • Hamilton wrapped up the regular season with a 13-5-6 record, logging a 2-1-3 over their last six games.
  • The Continentals went 6-5-5 in conference to claim the fourth-seed in the Championship Tournament.
  • In conference, Hamilton ranks sixth in goals (49) and points (121).
  • The Continentals rank seventh in conference in assists with 72.
  • Defensively, Hamilton is allowing the third-fewest goals in the league to opponents (1.29) and ranks fourth in blocked shots with 222.
  • The Continentals power-play unit is second-best in conference, converting at 21.4% with 12 power-play goals, fourth-most in the league.
  • The Hamilton penalty kill unit is fifth in the NESCAC, allowing four goals on 62 chances to register a .935 success rate.
  • The Continentals have struggled in the faceoff circle, recording a league-low .454 win rate.
  • Senior Claire McGennis ranks third in the conference in goals with 13, including three power-play goals.
  • Senior Sam Quackenbush has notched 12 assists, seventh-most in conference.

  • Smith posted the third-most shots in the league with 105.

Last Meeting vs. Hamilton
  • The Bantams went 0-1-1 against Hamilton in a pair of road games this season.
  • Trinity fell to the Continentals, 3-1, in the opening game.
  • In the opener, McGennis and Smith scored for Hamilton, while sophomore Jelani Adorno added a power play strike for Trinity. Hamilton added an empty net goal in the final minute to secure the 3-1 win.
  • The squads battled to a 1-1 overtime tie in the nightcap.
  • Hamilton used a goal from Sophia Testa in the second period to lead 1-0, until Mazzocchi scored off a pass from sophomore Emma Robertson to even the score in the third period.
  • Leclair made a game-high 33 saves for Trinity, while Brown stopped 13 shots for the Continentals.
