LONG ISLAND, NY. — A goal in the final minute of play from Matt Pecora, elevated the Bantams to the non-conference 16-12 victory over Scranton in the neutral site game at St. Joe's Long Island. The Bantams moved to 2-3 on the season, while University of Scranton fell to 2-6.
Rory McAloon netted the first goal of the contest 2 minutes into the opening quarter, followed by another Trinity goal from Pecora to quickly put the Bantams up, 2-0. With three more goals peppered across the offense the Bantams held a one point lead at the close of the first quarter, 5-4.
Trinity went on a three goal run to open up the second period from Bo Page (2), Pecora (3) and Jack Almeida. The Bantams gradually grew a four goal lead with 10 minutes remaining in the quarter, 8-4. Jay Ottomanelli and David Burleson netted the final two goals of the half to keep a comfortable lead of 10-5 at the close of the half.
With 5:30 remaining in the third the Royals made it a two point game, 13-10, the first time since the first quarter that the game had a deficit of two goals.
The Bantams added four more goals from Connors (2), DeSimone (2), Ottomanelli (4), and Pecora (3), while also holding the Royals to just two more goals to close out the game 16-12 for the final.
Jordan Opdahl made 17 saves in the net for the Bantams, while Scranton's Declan Allen collected 6 saves, splitting his time in the net with Carsen Kirchner who made eight saves.
