Six Runs in the 9th Elevate Bantams Over Bears, 14-8

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Trinity College Baseball revisited Coast Guard this afternoon where the Bantams responded to their first meeting result by defeating the Bears 14-8 for the final after a six run ninth inning boosted them to victory. Trinity is currently 4-7, while the Bears are served their fourth loss on a young season, 7-4. The Bantams will host Wheaton College on Sunday, March 24th at 1PM at DiBenedetto Stadium.

Trinity registered three batters with 2 RBI's a-piece from Aidan Stern, William Frain, and Jack Ryan adding to the 12 total RBI's knocked during the non-conference game. Sean Meth lead the Bantams on the day going 3-for-4, scoring two runs and sending in three, including a two run dart to open up the game for the Bantams. Tyler Bernstein was award two bases on balls, tallying three stolen bases holding half of the teams total. Coast Guard totaled 12 hits against the Bantams, with three batters collecting two hits each.

Scoring Summary:
  • Meth was the fourth batter to open up the game hitting a two run dart over the left field fence to put the Bantams up 2-0.
  • The score remained 2-0 heading into the bottom of the second, Coast Guard would chalk up two runs with a double RBI from L. Percifiel singling to center field. Bears B. George hit a sacrifice fly to left field to send home the leading run, score 3-2 at the close of the second.
  • Trinity didn't stay behind long as they added two more runs from a ground out by Jack Matthuew and a single to left field from William Frain in the third inning, 4-3 Bantams.
  • Bears C.Cho homered to left center to open up the bottom of the third knotting the score 4-4.
  • In the top of the 7th the Bantams tacked on two more runs, with and RBI from Dylan Schnitzer and Meth, 6-4.
  • Coast Guard scored an unearned run due to an error by first to make it a one run game at the bottom of the 7th, 6-5.
  • Tyler Fairchild grounded out to second advancing Ryan to second and Bernstein home. Ryan would end up scoring due to a Bears passed ball for an unearned run, 8-5.
  • Coast Guard George Flied out in the bottom of the 8th to send home the Bears sixth run, 8-6.
  • In the top of the 9th Bantams Frain reached on a fielders choice recording an RBI, Ryan singled to center field, 2 RBI, along with Stern singling to left field, 2 RBI. Growing the Bantams lead 14-6.
  • Bears chalked up two more runs, but were held at 8. Bantams Sam Craven went to the mound to relieve Michael Aceto for the final out of the game.
Michael Aceto collected the win in the 14-8 victory, tossing for 4.2 innings. Ian Brown started on the mound for the Bantams collecting 7 strikeouts and allowing 5 hits and 4 runs.
