HARTFORD, Conn. - Trinity College Baseball team hosted Wheaton College in a non-conference meeting Sunday afternoon where the Bantams were victorious, 16-6 for the final. Bantams lifted 5-7 in the season while the Lyons add their third loss of the season, 6-4. Trinity College will host Westfield State University on Tuesday, March 26th at 3:30PM on the Murren Family Field.
- Tyler Griffin struck two batters out swinging and a ground out to third base to close a 1-2-3 opening inning.
- The Bantams registered six runs in the first inning to give them a comfortable lead to begin the game. Due to a couple walks, a stolen base and an error by the Lyons the Bantams have the bases loaded with Sean Meth up to bat.
- Meth registered a base knock sending home Aidan Stern for the first run of the game.
- William Frain would follow with a 2 run dart to left field bringing home both Matthews and Schnitzer, 3-0.
- A sacrifice bunt to third from Tyler Bernstein advanced Frain to second and Meth to third.
- Bantams would register back to back singles from Jack Ryan and William Sawyer to lift the Bantams to a 5-0 lead with one out.
- Griffin holds the Lyons again to a 1-2-3 inning striking out two batters, both swinging and a pop up to left field.
- A Park reached on a fielders choice with an RBI as Sawyer is thrown out at second from the right fielder to shortstop, Ryan scores 6-0.
- In the second inning with three base hits by the Bantams and one out with bases loaded Berstein is rewarded a base on ball, RBI advancing all the runners sending Matthews home.
- Ryan hit a 2 run base knock into left field jumping the bantams to a 9-0 lead.Â
- Ryan stole second, Bernstein stole third.
- Sawyer singled to center for an RBI, Bantams lead 10-0 with one out in the second.
- Lyons J. Walsh enters the game on the mound for B. Oliveira.
- The eleventh run is scored as Ryan stole home, 11-0.
- Wheaton chalked up there first run in the top of the third with a single to left field by M. Maher sending R. Toth home.
- The score remains 11-1 till the top of the 6th when the Lyons send home their second run of the game with a single to left field, 11-2.
- Bantams answer back in the bottom of the sixth with RBI's from Ryan, Sawyer, Park and Stern, 15-2.
- Sam Craven relieves Griffin from the mound for the Bantams at the top of the eighth.
- Trinity sends in their final run of the game in the bottom of the 8th after a base knock from Matthews to right field sending Sawyer home.
- In the top of the 9th Craven gives up three runs with two back-to-back doubles, 16-5.
- Joseph Capano stepped on the mound for the Bantams for the last batter to close out the game.
