Box Score HARTFORD, Conn. – For the second time in three seasons, the Trinity College Men's Hockey team was crowned New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Champions after defeating Tufts University, 4-0, at the Koeppel Community Sports Center Sunday afternoon.
The Bantams move to 23-3-1 on the season, matching the total for second-most wins in a season in program history, set in 2014-15. Tufts wraps their 2023-24 campaign with a 14-10-3 record. The Ephs will await their opponent in the NCAA Division III Men's Hockey Championship fore
With 4:40 remaining in the first period, the Bantams broke a scoreless tie as senior Spencer Korona delivered a win in the faceoff circle, where the puck trickled to the stick of junior Ricky Boysen, who wristed a shot to the back of the net, giving the Bantams a 1-0 lead.
As the final seconds of the first half ticked down, Korona fired a shot on net that was denied by Jumbos Peyton Durand, but the rebound landed at the stick of Boysen, who tucked a shot to the back of the net, pushing the Bantams ahead 2-0 heading into the second period.
With time running out in the third period trailing 2-0, the Jumbos were forced to pull their goalie for an extra attacker, but the Bantams capitalized behind an empty net tally from senior Devan Tongue to pull ahead 3-0. Boysen logged his first career hat trick with an empty net goal with 1:19 to play to send the Bantams to their seventh NESCAC Championship in program history.
The Bantams outshot the Jumbos, 38-28, and won the battle in the faceoff circle, 37-30., Trinity sophomore goaltender Devon Bobak posted 28 saves in his sixth shutout of the season. Durand made a game-high 34 saves for Tufts.
