Girard Tossed a 3-Hit Shutout in Non-Conference Split with the Owls

HARTFORD, Conn. -  The Bantams Softball team welcomed the Westfield State Owls for an intense midweek double-header at the Trinity College Softball Field. Erin Girard delivered a stellar performance, tossing a three-hit shutout to seal the victory in game one within six innings. However, despite a thrilling performance, the Bantams narrowly missed out on victory in game two, suffering a 3-5 defeat.

Bantams rise to a 19-12 season, while the Owls own a 21-10 record.

  • The Bantams surged ahead with their first four runs scored in the opening two innings. 

    • In the first inning, Kennedy Rogers grounded out to short, bringing home Taylor Mikolajczak to give the Bantams an early 1-0 lead. 

    • Then, in the second inning, Mikayla O'Brien reached first base on an error by the shortstop, allowing Abby Alper to score, extending the lead to 2-0. 

    • Gianna Tito added to the lead with a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing in Emily Goddard, making it 3-0 at the end of the second inning.
