HARTFORD, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams clinched a 2-1 series victory over the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears in NESCAC play this past weekend. The best- of- three series will be hosted at Middlebury College on Saturday, May 4th. The winner will advance to the Championship weekend hosted by Tufts University beginning on Saturday, May 10th.

GAME 1: Trinity 9-2 Bowdoin

  • In the opening inning, Bowdoin struck early, tallying two runs with a triple and a double in consecutive at-bats. Trinity's response was swift, as Adain Stern launched a solo home run over the right-center fence on the first pitch he saw, igniting the Bantams' offense.
  • Trinity took the lead in the first inning with a double from Sean Meth and a single up the middle by Andrew Park, bringing the score to 3-2 in their favor.
  • The Bantams extended their lead to 8-2 in the top of the third inning, scoring five runs on five hits. Jack Matthews, Luis Saldivia, Aidan Stern, and Dylan Schnitzer all contributed RBIs, with Schnitzer's double driving in two runners.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, a Bowdoin error allowed Trinity to score their ninth and final run of the game.
  • Ian Brown delivered an outstanding pitching performance, throwing 113 pitches over eight innings, allowing only two runs and six hits while striking out nine batters, securing Trinity's 9-2 victory.

GAME 2: Bowdoin 16-13 Trinity

  • Bowdoin seized an early lead with four runs in the opening inning, setting the tone for the game. Trinity quickly responded by scoring three runs of their own, sparked by a deep single to right field by Sean Meth that brought Dylan Schnitzer home, narrowing the gap to 4-1.
  • Andrew Park's fielder's choice advanced Meth to third base, setting up an ideal scoring opportunity. Meth and Park both scored on a single up the middle by William Sawyer, bringing Trinity within one run at 4-3 as they headed into the second inning.
  • However, Bowdoin surged again in the top of the second, scoring three early runs to kick off an eight-run inning. Trinity made a pitching change, bringing in Brandan Grady to halt Bowdoin's momentum. Despite Trinity's efforts, Bowdoin added five more runs before the inning concluded, extending their lead to 12-3.
  • Undeterred, the Bantams matched the Polar Bears' offensive intensity, scoring four runs of their own in the bottom of the second. Meth's double brought in two runs, followed by sacrifice RBI's from William Frain and Andrew Park, making it 12-7.
  • Bowdoin added two more runs in the fourth inning, including a solo home run by B. McKenzie and an RBI single by L. Foley. However, Trinity staged a remarkable fourth-inning rally, erasing Bowdoin's lead and making it a one-run game by scoring six runs as they cycled through their lineup.
  • With runners on base, William Sawyer and William Frain advanced due to a wild pitch, scoring Frain and beginning Trinity's comeback. Jack Mathews and Luis Saldivia then delivered back-to-back home runs, bringing the score to 12-14 with one out.
  • Aidan Stern and Dylan Schnitzer reached base on errors, allowing Stern to score the final run of the inning. Bowdoin made a pitching change, bringing in S. Sacerdote to close out the inning.
  • The fifth inning remained scoreless, with both teams held at 14-13. Bowdoin added two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings, ultimately tying the series at 1-1.

GAME 3: Trinity 14-3 Bowdoin

  • In the decisive game, senior Tyler Griffin delivered an outstanding performance on the mound, tossing a one-hit shutout over six innings. Griffin recorded six strikeouts and allowed only two walks, effectively shutting down the opposing lineup while the Bantams surged to a 14-run game.
  • Dylan Schitzer was a standout contributor, going a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate with a double, a solo home run, and four RBIs. His offensive prowess was instrumental in the Bantams' victory, crossing the plate three times.
  • William Sawyer added to the offensive onslaught with a triple, securing his third RBI of the game. The centerfielder went 3-for-5 at the plate, contributing significantly to the Bantams' run production.
  • Andrew Park and Jason Gaudio showcased their speed on the basepaths, each collecting a steal in the 14-3 victory, adding another dimension to Trinity's offensive arsenal.
  • The Bantams' scoring was consistent throughout the game, with runs tallied in the first, third, and fourth innings. Notably, back-to-back critical innings of eight runs in the third and five runs in the fourth propelled Trinity to a commanding lead.
  • In the ninth inning, the Polar Bears capitalized on Trinity's pitching change, scoring three runs off Sam Craven, the Bantams' fourth pitcher of the game. Despite this late surge, Trinity's earlier offensive explosion secured their victory and clinched the series.

Overall, Trinity showcased resilience and strong offensive performances throughout the series, securing a hard-fought series victory over Bowdoin.
