Women's Lacrosse Edged By #6 Gettysburg In NCAA Second Round

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Trinity College Women's Lacrosse team fell to sixth-ranked Gettysburg College, 13-11, in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse National Championship Tournament at Clark Field Sunday afternoon. The Bantams wrap the 2024 campaign with a 9-9 record.

The Bantams and the Bullets traded goals to open the first period as goals from sophomores Alex Lesko and Caroline Lally put Trinity ahead 2-1. Following back-to-back tallies from Gettysburg, sophomore Kaeley Zito found the back of the net to set the score at 3-3 heading into the second.

Sophomore Grace Denious and Lesko potted goals early in the second period to regain a 5-4 lead for the Bantams. Trailing 6-5 with 11 minutes on the clock, Trinity ripped off an four-goal spurt featuring strikes from sophomore Molly McGuckin, senior Natalie Miller, junior Brooke Kurtz and Lesko. The Bantams took a 9-7 lead into halftime.

Lesko registered her fourth goal of the day to push Trinity ahead 10-8 with 10:11 remaining in the third. The Bullets netted a pair of goals in the final five minutes of the period to tie the game at 10-10 entering the fourth period.

Kurtz delivered an unassisted tally with 8:25 to play to hand the Bantams an 11-10 advantage. Gettysburg responded less than two minutes later as sophomore Julia Daly scored her fifth goal of the day, followed by two goals in the 55th and 56th minute to secure the 13-11 win for the Bullets.

Lesko paced the Bantams attack with a team-high five points on a team-high four goals with an assist. Kurtz recorded a team-high five points with a team-high three assists and two goals. Denious added three points with two assists and a goal.

The Bullets edged the Bantams in the shot column, 27-23, and draw controls, 16-12. Sophomore Ali Macdoguall notched nine saves in goal, while senior Gillian Cortese registered a game-high 10 saves for Gettysburg.
