Field Hockey Bested by Panthers

MIDDLEBURY, Vt.– The Trinity College Field Hockey team was defeated 12-1 by Middlebury College on Saturday in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup. Trinity falls to 1-2 on the season and 0-2 in conference play, while the Panthers remain undefeated at 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the NESCAC.

The Panthers dominated the first period with fifteen shots released, with thirteen of them on the Bantams cage. Trinity's goalkeeper Hayley Gable denied ten of Middlebury's attempts on goal. The Panthers offensive persistence led to three goals, growing a 3-0 lead entering the second quarter.

Trinity junior midfielder Maeve Hymovitz ended the Bantams' scoring drought in the second quarter with a one-touch drive following an insert by Kate McManus during a penalty corner. Middlebury would add five more goals to their success in the NESCAC contest, growing their lead 8-1 entering the half.

Freshman goalkeeper Sydney Korkosz made her collegiate debut for the Bantams at the start of the third quarter. Korkosz faced 17 shots on goal, allowing only four to score, and held the Panthers scoreless during the third quarter, achieving the longest stretch of time without a goal for Middlebury in the game.

Middlebury outshot Trinity 40-2 and had a 14-to-3 advantage in penalty corners. Trinity's goalkeepers split time in the cage, with Gable making 11 saves and Korkosz adding 13, totaling 24 saves for the game. Maeve Hymovitz scored her first goal of the season and her third career goal, preventing a shutout for the Panthers' goalkeeper.

The Bantams will travel to Springfield College on Wednesday, September 18th, for a 6 PM non-conference match.
