Bantams Power Past the Pride

SPRINGFIELD, Conn. – The Trinity College Field Hockey team registered their sixteenth straight program win against the Springfield College Pride dating back to 2008, with a 3-1 victory Wednesday night on Stag Field. With the win, the Bantams improved to 2-2 on the season, while the Pride leveled to 3-3 overall.

Both teams struggled to find the back of the net in the first quarter, each managing only two shots.

Springfield broke the deadlock six minutes into the second quarter with a goal from Molly Collins off a penalty corner, giving them a 1-0 lead. Trinity remained quiet offensively as the game headed into halftime.

The Bantams found the equalizer just 1:37 into the third quarter when Izzy Deveney was awarded a penalty stroke opportunity. The senior defensive midfielder confidently buried the ball into the corner of the net, marking her second career stroke goal and her first of the season. Trinity nearly took the lead shortly after, with under two minutes remaining in the quarter. Off a corner, Maeve Hymovitz inserted the ball, and Deveney aimed for her second goal, but sent it wide.

With the score tied at one in the fourth quarter, Nina Falkson lifted the Bantams into the lead, 2-1 after finishing a pass from junior Aly Janssen with under eight minutes left to play. In the 54th minute, sophomore forward Brooke Dibiase unleashed a shot on goal, but it was denied by Springfield's goalkeeper, Kaitlyn Parent.

With just three minutes remaining in the game, junior midfielder Harper Siemens fired a shot from the right side of the cage, sending the ball past the Pride's defense and into the boards for an insurance goal, sealing the victory, 3-1 for Trinity College. Siemens recorded her fourth career goal and her first of the season.

Trinity will return to Sheppard Field this Saturday, September 21st, for a 12 PM game against the Williams College Ephs in a New England Small College Athletic Conference matchup.
