Men's Soccer Blanked at Middlebury, 9-0

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Trinty College Men's Soccer team fell to host Middlebury College, 9-0, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) at South Street Field Saturday afternoon. The Bantams move to 1-3 on the season, and 0-3 in conference, while the Panthers rise to 2-0 in the NESCAC and 4-0 overall.
 
The Panthers netted their first goal of the game in the 6th minutes at Gavin Rudolph scored the first of two goals on the day. Just over two minutes later, the Panthers made it a 2-0 game on an unassisted strike from Eujin Chae. With 34:00 to play in the first half, Tyler Payne found the back of the net to push the Panthers ahead 3-0.
 
Rudolph added his second tally of the day with a goal in the 26th minute to expand the advantage to 4-0. Less than four minutes later, Hugo Horwitz delivered an unassisted goal to make it a 5-0 game. Eduardo Casanova potted a goal in the 40th minute to send Middlebury into halftime with a 6-0 lead.
 
Less than five minutes into the second half, Shane Farrell scored to set the score at 7-0. Casanova registered his second goal of the day in the 54th minute, and Samuel Dolan converted in the final minute to give the Panthers the 9-0 victory.
 
Middlebury controlled the shot column, 26-1, during the contest. Trinity junior Felix Schmidt made a game-high three saves, while Nate Dyott stopped one shot in the second half. Panthers Owen Greene and Joey Waterman combined for a clean sheet.
 
Trinity will look to return to the win column when host Williams Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Middlebury travels to Endicott for a non-conference match Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
