HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Men's Soccer team lost to visiting Williams College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash at Trinity Soccer Field Saturday afternoon. The Bantams move to 1-4 overall and 0-4 in conference play, while the Ephs rise to 2-2 in the NESCAC and 4-2 on the season.
Â
The physical battle, featuring seven yellow cards and a red card, was scoreless for the opening 77 minutes of play until a foul in the box awarded a penalty kick opportunity to the Ephs. On the penalty kick attempt, Trinity junior
Nate Dyott made a brilliant diving save to deny Lorcan Mitchell, but the ball deflected back to the front of the net, where Mohamed Keussom swooped in a tucked a shot to the back of the net, giving the Ephs a 1-0 lead.
Â
With less than 12 minutes to play, a long ball bounded into the box towards the Bantams net where Dyott leaped to secure the ball as an Ephs attacker attempted to head the ball, leading to a collision and a red card for Dyott. The Ephs were awarded another penalty kick opportunity, which was converted by Mitchell to secure the 2-0 win for Williams.
Â
The Ephs controlled the shot column, 17-8, during the contest. Dyott made five saves for Trinity, while Ben Diffley stopped four shots for Williams.
Â
The Bantams will look to return to the win column when they host St. Johns Fisher Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Williams travels to Western Connecticut State for a non-conference match Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
