Voileyball Sweeps Tri-Match at WestConn

DANBURY, Conn. – The Trinity College Volleyball team swept a pair of matches at Western Connecticut State, defeating Keene State, 3-1 (25-12, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21), and the host Wolves, 3-1 (25-16, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22), at Stephen Feldman Arena Saturday afternoon. The Bantams rise to 12-1 on the season, while Keene State moves to 6-9 and WestConn sits at 9-6.
 
The Bantams reached the 12-win mark in 13 games, the fastest to reach the mark since the 2011 team achieved their 12th win in their 15th game.
 
Match 1: Trinity 3, Keene State 1
The Bantams had three players reach double-digit kills in the win, led by senior Eva Lekovic with a match-high 16 kills and seven digs. Junior Ellie Gordon tallied 13 kills with five blocks, while senior Bella Caffuzzi registered 10 kills with a match-high seven blocks. Senior Grace Sullivan dished out a career-high 26 assists with a career-high five service aces and four digs. Junior Caroline Howell chipped in 21 assists, while sophomore Scarlett Jago grabbed  a match-high 18 digs in the win.
 
Sarah Bartels logged a triple-double for the Owls with a team-high 15 digs, a team-high 12 kills and 11 assists. Gigi Stake added nine kills and seven digs, while Alexis Small recorded 21 assists with six digs.
 
Match 2: Trinity 3, Western Connecticut State 1
Lekovic paced the Bantams attack with a match-high 11 kills, reaching double-digit kills for the third straight match, and eighth match of the season. Gordon and first-year Annette Schlunk each added 10 kills apiece, while Sullivan distributed 22 assists with eight digs. Jago snared a match-high 28 digs, and Schlunk nabbed a career-high 18 digs for her second career double-double.
 
Helen Megson led the Wolves with a 10 kills and three digs, while Delia Clouden added nine kills and five blocks. Olivia Monteleone posted a double-double with a match-high 33 assists, 16 digs and five kills.
 
The Bantams will return to the court with a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash at Wesleyan University Friday at 6:00 p.m.
