Men's Soccer Falls To UHart, 2-1

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Men's Soccer team was edged by visiting University of Hartford, 2-1, in a crosstown battle at Trinity Soccer Field Monday night. The Bantams sit at 2-5 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 7-1-1 overall.

All the scoring in the contest came during an eight-minute window of the first half. The Bantams struck first as junior Mike Desmond played a free kick on net, which Hawks junior keeper Ryan Lunn attempted to punch away, but the ball deflected in front of the net where sophomore Shane Ivey swooped in for the finish to give Trinity the 1-0 lead with 39:07 on the clock.

Less than 20 seconds later, the Hawks took the opening kickoff and sophomore Austin Murawski delivered a cross to the front of the net, where senior Devan Jessop tucked a shot past Trinity senior goalkeeper Matt Birnhak to even the score at 1-1.

In the 14th minute of play, the Bantams were whistled for a handball in the box, resulting in a penalty kick for the Hawks. Murawski placed a shot past Birnhak's left side to deliver the game-winner for UHart.

The Bantams dominated the shot column, 17-8, and held the advantage in corner kicks, 9-2, during the contest. Birnhak made four saves for Trinity, while Lunn stopped a match-high six shots for the Hawks.

The Bantams will return to field with a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) battle at Connecticut College Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. The Hawks travel to Suffolk University Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
