Women's Soccer Downs Johnson & Wales, 2-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Trinity College Women's Soccer team outlasted host Johnson & Wales to register a 2-1 non-conference victory over the regional-ranked Wildcats Sunday afternoon at Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex. The Bantams rise to 2-6 on the season, while the Wildcats dip to 7-3.

After nearly 65 minutes of hard-fought, scoreless play, the Bantams cracked the scoreboard as junior Jill Fisher connected with classmate Alyssa Keane for the finish, her second goal of the season. Following a yellow card in the 71st minute, first-year Sara Rieger netted her first collegiate goal to push the Bantams lead to 2-0.

The lone tally for the Wildcats came on a penalty kick from senior Emily DeRoehn in the 84th minute as the Bantams held on for the 2-1 victory.

Johnson & Wales outshot Trinity, 12-9, and held the advantage in corner kicks, 6-1. Lily Brackin made a trio of crucial saves for the Bantams to preserve the victory, while senior Carly McCrumb allowed two goals with two saves for the Wildcats.

Trinity will look to continue their winning ways when they travel to Tufts for a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash Saturday at Noon. Johnson & Wales hosts Anna Maria Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
