Women's Ice Hockey's Late Goal Not Enough in 3-1 Loss to Polar Bears

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College women's ice hockey team fell to Bowdoin College, 3-1, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Polar Bears complete a sweep of the weekend series and improve to 12-1-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the NESCAC. Trinity drops to 6-6-0 overall and 4-3-0 in conference play.

Bowdoin scored in each period of the contest, starting with a goal late in the first. At 17:09, Gia Massari found the back of the net to give the Polar Bears a 1-0 lead heading into the second period. In the middle frame, Bella Schifano extended Bowdoin's lead with a power-play goal, making it 2-0.

The Polar Bears added an insurance goal late in the third period. Maddie Wojciak scored at 17:28, pushing Bowdoin's advantage to 3-0.

Trinity's Gabriela Gross spoiled Bowdoin goalie Sarah Peterson's shutout with less than a minute left in the game, scoring to make it 3-1. Gross was the lone goal scorer for the Bantams in the series against the Polar Bears this weekend.

Despite outshooting Bowdoin 27-17, Trinity was edged in faceoffs, 27-24. Bantams' goalie Madeline Carter made 14 saves in the loss, while Peterson recorded 26 saves for the Polar Bears.
