BABSON PARK, Mass. – The eight-ranked Trinity College Men's Ice Hockey team fell to host Babson College, 2-1, in a non-conference tilt at the Babson Skating Center Saturday afternoon. The Bantams move to 6-3-1 on the season, while the Beavers rise to 6-5-1 overall.
Â
Just over five minutes into the opening period, the Beavers struck first as Trinity junior netminder
Devon Bobak denied a shot from Babson sophomore Sean Senier on the doorstop, but the rebound landed at the stick of junior Brendan Kennedy, who tucked the puck past Bobak to stake the Beavers to a 1-0 lead.
Â
Less than a minute later, the Bantams delivered the equalizer as sophomore
Jakob Karpa re-directed a shot from the point by first-year
Ty Broad past Beavers junior goalie Nate Mueller to even the score at 1-1 with 14:06 remaining in the first period.
Â
With 15:01 to play in the second period, the Beavers netted the difference-maker as a shot from graduate Kyle Gierman was knocked down in the front of the net, where Senier swooped in a placed a shot to the back of the net to give Babson the 2-1 edge.
Â
The Bantams outshot the Beavers, 33-32, and held the advantage in the face-off circle, 30-27. Both squads went 0-for-2 on power-play opportunities. Bobak logged 30 saves for Trinity, while Mueller stopped a game-high 32 shots for Babson.
Â
The Bantams will be back on the ice when they return to New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play with road trips to Middlebury (Jan. 10) and Williams (Jan. 11).
