Field Hockey Concludes Regular Season at Amherst, 2-1 Final

AMHERST, Mass. – The Trinity College field hockey team fell to Amherst College, 2–1, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup on Tuesday afternoon in Amherst, Mass. The Bantams close the regular season with a 3–12 overall record and 1–9 mark in conference play, while the Mammoths improve to 8–7 overall and 4–6 in the NESCAC.

What Happened

  • Trinity struck first in the 29th minute when Alison Gerber converted off a penalty corner, assisted by Gracie Bookbinder, to give the Bantams a 1–0 lead.

  • Amherst applied pressure late in the first half with three quality chances, but Hayley Gable stood tall in goal for Trinity, making five saves in the opening 30 minutes — two in the first quarter and three in the second — to preserve the lead at the break.

  • The Mammoths broke through less than two minutes into the fourth quarter, capitalizing on a corner opportunity after a sequence of shots and saves to even the score at 1–1. Amherst then tallied the eventual game-winning goal in the 51st minute, again off a successful corner play.

  • In the closing minutes, Trinity pulled its goalkeeper for an extra field player to generate more offense, but despite the late push, the Bantams came up short in the 2–1 defeat.
