#1 Men's Basketball Throttles Lehman, 101-39, In Season Opener

HARTFORD, Conn. – The top-ranked Trinity College Men's Basketball team rolled past visiting Lehman College, 101-39, in a non-conference tilt at Ray Oosting Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The Bantams improve to 1-0 on the season, while Lehman dips to 2-2 overall.
 
What Happened:
  • The Bantams grabbed an early 16-6 lead behind five points from Jarrel Okorougo, and three-pointers from David Ayles and Paul Ippolito.
  • Drew Lazarre sandwiched a pair of triples around a trey from Trevor McDonald to cap a 22-8 run from Trinity that helped push the lead to 38-14.
  • McDonald, Ippolito and Samuel Norris netted four points apiece over the final minutes of the half to take a 53-18 lead into the break.
  • Lazarre and Henry Vetter knocked down three-pointers early in the second half to give the Bantams a 61-18 lead with 17:20 to play.
  • Ayles poured in seven straight points, followed by a dunk from Okorougo, as the Bantams extended their advantage to 75-24.
  • A free throw from Jadon Holmes gave Trinity their largest lead of the game, 97-35, en route to the 101-39 victory.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • The Bantams connected on 51.4% (38-of-74) from the floor, including 12-of-29 (41.4%) from three-point range, and 13-of-18 (72.2%) from the foul line.
  • The Lightning shot 27.3% (15-of-55) from the field, 5-of-16 (31.3%) from three-point, and 4-of-6 (66.7%) from the free throw stripe.
  • The victory is the Bantams largest margin of victory (62 points) since Trinity posted a 97-35 victory over Pratt during the 2021-22 season.
  • This is Trinity's highest point total since registering a 113-92 win over Mitchell during the 2021-22 season.
  • The Bantams forced 35 turnovers during the game, the most in a game during the James Cosgrove era.
  • Trinity dominated the paint (48-14) and bench points (56-26) during the contest.
  • The Bantams had five scorers in double figures, led by a game-high 15 points and five rebounds from Okorougo.
  • Ayles posted a career-high 12 points with four assists and two rebounds, while Lazarre added 12 points, a game-high seven rebounds and two assists.
  • Bangaly Berete tallied a career-high 11 points and two rebounds off the bench, while McDonald chipped in 11 points and two rebounds.
  • Zay Marte led Lehman with a team-high 11 points, connecting on 3-of-4 three-point attempts.
  • Kesean Tracy added nine points, while Marcus Vincenti had six points and Amar Ndiaye grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
