#1 Men's Basketball Rolls Past Eastern Connecticut State, 99-69

HARTFORD, Conn. – The top-ranked Trinity College Men's Basketbal teaml defeated visiting Eastern Connecticut State University, 99-69, in a non-conference battle at Ray Oosting Gymnasium Tuesday evening. The Bantams rise to 2-0 on the season, while the Warriors fall to 3-1 overall.
 
What Happened:
  •  Play was back-and-forth to kick off the first half with the sides trading the lead eight times over the opening ten minutes of play.
  • Knotted at 22-22 with 9:34 on the clock, the Bantams began to pull away with a 13-4 run over the next five minutes, paced by a trio of steals from Drew Lazarre, to build a 35-24 lead.
  • Trinity closed the first half on an 11-4 run, featuring four-point efforts from Henry Vetter and Trevor McDonald, to take a 46-28 lead into halftime.
  • The Bantams carried their offensive momentum into the second half as six points from Jarrel Okorougo helped push Trinity ahead, 57-36, with 16:44 to play.
  • Vetter poured in seven points, along with a triples from Paul Ippolito and Marley Stewart, as the Bantams escalated their advantage to 81-49.
  • A bucket from Okorougo gave Trinity their largest lead, 85-49, as the Bantams wrapped up the 99-69 behind three-pointers from Vetter and McDonald and a couple clean-up putbacks from Jadon Holmes.
 
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • The Bantams connected on 51.3% (39-of-76) from the floor, including 9-of-27 (33.3%) from three-point range, and 12-of-17 (70.6%) from the foul line.
  • The Warriors shot 45.6% (26-of-57) from the field, 8-of-24 (33.3%) from three-point, and 9-of-12 (75%) from the free throw stripe.
  • Eastern Connecticut State edged Trinity on the glass, 37-35, while the Bantams converted 28 points off 22 Warrior turnovers. Trinity controlled the paint, 56-32.
  • Vetter led all scorers with a game-high 24 points, shooting 9-of-13 from the floor, with three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
  • Okorougo tallied 16 points with a steal and a block, while Drew Lazarre registered 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and a game-high four steals.
  • David Ayles chipped in nine points, five rebounds, a team-high five assists and three steals.
  • McDonald added nine points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win.
  • The Warriors had three scorers in double figures, paced by 16 points, three assists and two rebounds from Dominick Dao.
  • Julian Sanchez posted 15 points, six rebounds two assists and two steals, while Drew Soltis notched 14 points and seven rebounds. Jalen Hamblin grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds in the loss.

  • The Bantams will return to action with a road trip to Yeshiva University for a non-conference game on Thursday, November 20 at 8:00 p.m.
