Men's Basketball Prepares To Defend Title in 2025-26

HARTFORD, Conn. – For the first time in program history, the Trinity College Men's Basketball team enters the season at the top ranked team in the country after capturing the program's first NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship last season. The Bantams will open their 2025-26 campaign against Lehman College on Saturday, November 15 at 1:00 p.m.
 
Bantam Bytes:
  • The Bantams matched a program record in wins, logging a 30-3 record with an 8-2 mark in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).
  • Trinity defeated top-ranked Wesleyan, 75-67, in the NESCAC Championship game to earn back-to-back NESCAC crowns.
  • The Bantams boosted the top defense in the Nation, limiting opponents to 57.3 points per game and a 35.6 field goal percentage.
  • Trinity led the Nation in Scoring Margin (19.5) and ranked tenth in assist:turnover ratio (1.55) and 15th in rebounding margin.
  • Offensively, the Bantams generated 76.8 points per game, shooting 44.1% from the floor, including 33.9% from three-point range.
  • Marlynn V. and William P. Scully Head Men's Basketball Coach James Cosgrove, the reigning NABC Division III National Coach of the Year, enters his 16th season with a career record of 486-264, including a 247-127 mark at Trinity.
  • All-American Henry Vetter started all 33 games last season, averaging 15.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists per game, shooting 36.5% from three-point range and a team-high 88.6% from the foul line.
  • All-American Jarrel Okorougo earned NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year status after posting 12.6 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game with 29 blocks and 28 steals in 33 starts.
  • Drew Lazarre is coming off a breakout junior season where he delivered 11.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game with 70 assists, 40 steals and 29 blocks en route to a NESCAC Second Team All-Conference selection.
  • Tristan Davis posted a career-highs in rebounds (142) and points (134), connecting on a team-high 56.3% from the field with 24 steals and 20 blocks.
  • Trevor McDonald averaged 18.8 minutes off the bench, producing 3.8 points and 3.3 rebounds with 37 assists, 15 steals and 11 blocks.
  • Jared Berry appeared in 33 games off the bench, chipping in 9.3 points per game, shooting 43.4% from three-point range with 113 rebounds, 37 assists, 15 steals and 11 blocks.
  • Paul Jordan appeared in 33 games, tallying 97 points and 59 rebounds, while David Ayles logged 74 points, 52 rebounds, 48 assists, 31 steals and 10 blocks in 31 games played.
  • Junior Paul Ippolito and sophomores Marley Stewart, Bangaly Berete and Samuel Norris will see increased minutes in reserve roles, while sophomore Weston Reardon and first-years Kobe Closeil and Patrick Mahoney will provide depth for the Bantams backcourt, while sophomore transfer Nathan Freisthler and first-year Jadon Holmes will bring frontcourt depth.
