ABINGTON, Pa. – The 17
th-ranked Trinity College Women's Basketball team defeated host Penn State-Abington, 57-42, in a non-conference tilt at the PSU-Abington Athletic Building Tuesday afternoon. The Bantams improve to 9-1 on the season, while the Nittany Lions drop to 7-5 overall.
What Happened:
- The sides exchanged points in the early minutes of the first quarter until a pair of buckets from Marlo Simms put Trinity ahead 9-4 midway through the period.
- Leading 9-6, the Bantams closed the first quarter on a 7-0 run, featuring a triple from Avery Marzo, to hold a 16-6 advantage.
- The defensive efforts shined in the second quarter as both teams were limited to eight points apiece, setting the score at 24-14 at the break.
- The Nittany Lions used a 12-6 run to trim the gap to 30-26 with 4:33 left in the third quarter, but the Bantams responded with a 14-5 run, paced by six points from Simms, to rebuild a 44-31 advantage.
- Trinity maintained a double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter, behind four points from Marzo and a three-pointer from Melissa Whitmore, to seal the 57-42 victory.

- The Bantams shot 38.6% (22-of-57) from the field, 15.8% (3-of-19) from three-point, and 90.9& (10-of-11) from the foul line.
- PSU-Abington connected on 28.3% (17-of-60) from the floor, 5.9% (1-of-17) from three-point, and 33.3% (7-of-21) from the free throw stripe.

- The Bantams had three scorers in double figures, led by Simms with a game-high 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season, along with three assist, a block and a steal.
- Kiki Fossbender matched Simms with a game-high 12 points and four rebounds, while Marzo stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.
- Maya Carnes dished out a game-high five assists with five points and three rebounds.
- Amirah Hackney paced the Nittany Lions with a team-high 11 points and six rebounds off the bench, while Tarianda Washington added nine points, eight rebounds and two steals.

- The Bantams will be back on the floor when they travel to face fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins University for a non-conference game at Goldfarb Gymnasium on December 31 at 3:00 p.m.
