#14 Women's Basketball Silences Rivier, 61-36

NASHUA, N.H. – The 14th-ranked Trinity College Women's Basketball team cruised past host Rivier University, 61-36, in a non-conference tilt at the Muldoon Center Saturday afternoon. The Bantams rise to 7-1 overall, while the Knights slide to 0-8 on the season.
 
What Happened:
  • The Bantams defense limited the Knights to just four points in the first quarter while Trinity built an 18-4 advantage behind five points from Melissa Whitmore and four points from Marlo Simms.
  • Maya Carnes and Kiki Fossbender each knocked down a pair of jumpers to push the Bantams advantage to 26-9 with 6:16 remaining in the second quarter. Trinity closed the half on a 12-6 run to take a 38-15 lead into the break.
  • Simms opened the third quarter with four straight points, followed by buckets from Carnes, Avery Marzo, Alex Carbonaro and Fiona Neilon to build a 55-29 lead entering the fourth.
  • Sydney Perry scored seven straight points for Rivier early in the fourth to trim the gap to 57-33, but Marzo jarred a pair of jumpers to stifle the Knights momentum as Trinity secured the 61-36 win.

  • The Bantams converted 32.1% (26-of-81) from the floor, 10.7% (3-of-28) from three-point range, and 60% (6-of-10) from the foul line.
  • Rivier shot 28% (14-of-50) from the field, making 1-of-13 three-point attempts, and 53.8% (7-of-13) from the foul line.

  • The Bantams had ten players register points, paced by ten-point efforts from Carnes and Simms.
  • Simms posted her sixth double-double of the season, grabbing a game-high 16 rebounds and four blocks.
  • Marzo and Samantha Slofkiss tallied eight points and six rebounds each.
  • Whitmore grabbed nine rebounds with five points, while Carbonaro posted seven points with a career-high four assists, three rebounds and a career-high three steals.
  • Gianna Donato led Rivier with a game-high 15 points, four rebounds and two assists, while Perry added 14 points and five rebounds.
 
Up Next:
  • The Bantams will be back on the court when they travel to Springfield College for a non-conference clash on Monday, December 8 at 7:00 p.m.
  • All-time, Trinity possess a  4-5 record against the Pride, dating back to their first matchup in 1995-96.
