Late Goal by #8 Continentals Sinks #12 Bantams, 2-1

HARTFORD, Conn. – The 12th-ranked Trinity College Men's Ice Hockey team was edged by eighth-ranked Hamilton College, 2-1, in a hard-fought battle on Saturday. The loss drops the Bantams to 12-5-1 overall and 8-3-1 in NESCAC play, while the Continentals improve to 15-3-0 overall and 11-1-0 in the conference.

Trinity outshot Hamilton 10-8 in the first period, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Both goaltenders, Devon Bobak for the Bantams and Charlie Archer for the Continentals, were solid, keeping the game scoreless as the teams entered the second period.

The Continentals broke the deadlock late in the second frame, with Jackson Krock scoring on a power play at 15:43. Hamilton had three power-play opportunities in the period, converting one.

In the third period, Bobak turned away three quick shots during a Hamilton power play that carried over from the second period, keeping the Bantams within striking distance. Trinity responded with five shots on goal before earning a power-play chance of its own. With the extra man, Jakob Karpa netted the equalizer at 9:12, tying the game 1-1.

However, Hamilton regained the lead at 14:48 when Devon DeVries scored the game-winning goal, putting the Continentals ahead 2-1. The Bantams pulled their goalie in the final minutes in an attempt to force overtime, but they were unable to capitalize, and the Continentals held on for the win.

Trinity outshot Hamilton 30-26 overall, including 13-9 in the third period. The Bantams won the faceoff battle 34-33, but Hamilton dominated in blocked shots, 25-11. Bobak recorded 24 saves in the loss, while Archer tallied 29 saves for Hamilton.

The Trinity College Men's Ice Hockey team will return to action on Friday, February 7th, at 7:30 PM when they host Middlebury College at the Koeppel Community Sports Center.
