#13 Men's Ice Hockey Tames Panthers, 4-2

HARTFORD, Conn. – The 13th-ranked Trinity College Men's Ice Hockey team fought off visiting Middlebury College, 4-2, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash at the Koeppel Community Sports Center Friday night. The Bantams rise to 13-5-1 on the season with a 9-3-1 mark in NESCAC play, while the Panthers slide to 5-8 in conference and 9-10 overall.

The offensive fireworks erupted in the second period with a four-goal spurt in just over two minutes of action, beginning with Middlebury sophomore Bobby May finding the back of the net off a shot from the point to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead at the 16:06 mark. Just over a minute later, the Bantams secured the equalizer as first-year Ryan Panico delivered a post-to-post pass to sophomore Connor Sedlak for the finish past Middlebury sophomore goalie Andrew Heinze.

Thirty seconds later, Trinity grabbed a 2-1 lead as Karpa ripped a shot from the blue line through traffic and over Heinze's shoulder. The Panthers bookended the goal bonanza as sophomore Revy Mack scored from just outside the faceoff circle in the Bantams end to knot the game at 2-2.

With 9:15 remaining in the third period, Trinity found the difference-maker as senior Eamon Doheny beat Heinze with a blast from the blue line, putting the Bantams on top, 3-2. Trinity added an insurance goal in the final minute of play as senior Richard Boysen cashed in a feed from Panico to send the Bantams to the 4-2 victory.

The Bantams outshot the Panthers, 41-32, and held the edge in the faceoff circle, 45-35. Trinity junior goaltender Devon Bobak (13-5-1) posted 30 saves, while Heinze (8-8) stopped a game-high 37 shots. The sides combined for 16 penalties with Trinity converting 1-of-5 power-play chances and the Panthers going 0-for-3.

The Bantams will look to remain in the win column when they host Williams College in a NESCAC tilt Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
