Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | DeVaux

Women's Ice Hockey Blanked by Mammoths, 2-0

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Ice Hockey team hosted Amherst College on Friday evening to open a two-game NESCAC series, but fell 2-0 to the Mammoths. The loss dropped the Bantams to 9-11 overall and 6-7 in conference play, while Amherst improved to 15-5-1 and 8-4-1 in NESCAC action.

Amherst opened the scoring at the 14-minute mark of the first period with a power-play goal from Emily Hohmann. Trinity responded with five shots of their own, but were unable to find the equalizer.

In the second period, the Mammoths outshot the Bantams 16-6 and extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Gretchen Dann just six minutes into the frame.

Trinity pushed for a comeback in the final period, taking eight more shots on goal, but was unable to capitalize. Bantams' goaltender Madeline Carter kept the Mammoths off the board in the third period, finishing the game with a career-high 40 saves.

Amherst outshot Trinity 42-19 on goal, and 66-45 overall. The Mammoths also had a slight edge in faceoff wins, 25-24, and blocked 15 shots to Trinity's 12.

The Bantams will travel to Amherst College on Saturday, February 15, for a 3:00 PM game to conclude the NESCAC series.
