Trinity Topped by Bates, 63-49

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Basketball team suffered a 63-46 defeat to visiting Bates College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup on Friday evening in Oosting Gymnasium. The Bantams dropped to 19-3 overall and 6-2 in NESCAC play, while the Bobcats improved to 11-8 overall and 3-4 in conference action.

Sophomore Olivia Vick led the Bantams with 13 points, while junior Theresa Twardosky added 10 points and four rebounds. Sophomores Madi Forman and Lucy Palmer each grabbed eight rebounds, with Lucy Dorion contributing two steals, six rebounds, and perfect shooting from the free-throw line (2-2).

Trinity tied the game three times in the opening quarter at 2-2, 8-8, and 13-13. The Bantams briefly took the lead after back-to-back possessions, but Bates' Lily Lambo hit a buzzer-beating layup to end the first quarter with the score tied at 15-15. The Bobcats then dominated the second quarter, heading into halftime with a 31-25 lead.

The game remained quiet for the first three minutes of the third quarter until Madi Forman scored a layup to ignite the scoring for Trinity. Bates created some separation in the period, expanding their lead to 45-35 as the teams entered the fourth quarter.

Trinity added 11 points in the final frame, but Bates closed out the game with a 63-46 victory.

The Bantams narrowly edged the Bobcats in rebounding, 44-43, but Bates controlled the paint, 26-16. Trinity outscored Bates' reserves 19-15 from the bench. The Bantams shot 15-of-65 (23.1%) from the field, 4-of-25 (16%) from three-point range, and 12-of-17 (70.6%) from the free-throw line. Bates shot 26-of-58 (44.8%) from the field, including 7-of-14 (50%) from beyond the arc, and 4-of-9 (44.4%) from the foul line.

Trinity will look to bounce back when they host Colby College in NESCAC action on Friday, February 14th, at 7:00 p.m. in Oosting Gymnasium.
