HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Baseball team fell to visiting Eastern Connecticut State University, 7-4, in a non-conference game at Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium Tuesday afternoon. The Bantams sit at 1-5 on the season, while the Warriors are 4-2 overall.

In the top of the second, Emmanuel Zaiter knocked a double into the right field corner, and then scored on an RBI single up the middle from Ian Moser to take the 1-0 lead. Moser touched home on an RBI groundout by senior Preston Cosme-Cruz to push the advantage to 2-0.

The Warriors added to their lead in the top of the fifth with Ray Leonzi delivering a one -out single up the middle, and then scored on a Bantams fielding error, to make it 3-0. EastConn followed with an RBI triple from Michael Hernandez and an RBI double from Francis Ferguson to extend the lead to 5-0 after five innings.

With the bases loaded in the sixth, Hank Penders lifted an RBI sac fly to left field, followed by an RBI double from Ferguson in the seventh to extend the Warriors lead to 7-0. The Bantams whittled away at the deficit in the eighth as
William Sawyer scored on an RBI single from
Cole Mascolo, trailed by an RBI sac fly from
Luis Saldivia to close the gap to 7-2. The Bantams added another run in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI double from
Andrew Gabriel.

Joseph Capano allowed five runs, two earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts.
Thomas Fahey tossed a scoreless inning of relief with a trio of punchouts. Bernstein paced the offense, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Warriors starter Nathan Furino earned the win, allowing two unearned runs on three hits with five strikeouts in seven innings of work.

The Bantams are back in action at the RussMatt Invitational in Florida from March 15-19. Trinity opens with a game against Springfield College (2-3) Saturday at 1:45 p.m.
