Box Score HARTFORD, Conn. – The fourth-ranked Trinity College Men's Basketball team advanced to their second straight NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Final Four after rallying past visiting Catholic University, 86-63, in the Elite Eight Round at Oosting Gymnasium Saturday night. The Bantams improve to 28-3 on the season, while Catholic finished with a 25-6 mark.
With the win, Trinity advances to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Semifinals in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Bantams will face NESCAC rival Wesleyan University (30-1) on March 20
th at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
Trinity had four scorers in double figures, led by junior
Henry Vetter with a game-high 21 points, a team-high four assists and three rebounds. Junior
Jarrel Okorougo netted 17 points with six rebounds, while classmate
Drew Lazarre logged his fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Senior
Will Dorion tallied 11 points, two rebounds and two assists.
Dan Buckley paced the Cardinals with a team-high 19 points, a game-high five assists, and four rebounds. CJ Ruoff chipped in 13 points and five rebounds, while Justin Green grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.
The Cardinals came out of the gates hot, racing to a 17-5 lead in the opening six minutes behind six points from Sean Neylon. The Bantams ripped off a 15-0 run over the next three-plus minutes, paced by five points from Lazarre and four from Berry to take a 20-17 lead with 8:35 on the clock. Catholic evened the score at 23-23, but a 7-0 run from Trinity, capped by a layup from
Trevor McDonald, gave the Bantams the 30-23 edge. The sides exchanged baskets over the final minutes of the frame to set the score at 38-34 at the break.
The Bantams built the lead to 45-37 behind a put-back bucket from Lazarre. With 10:30 to play, junior
Paul Jordan intercepted a pass at mid-court and raced down the floor for a fastbreak layup to extend the Trinity lead to 57-43. Vetter capped a 12-6 run by the Bantams with a deep three-pointer and turnaround jumper as Trinity pushed the lead to 69-49 with 7:22 on the clock. The Bantams used five points from Dorion and four-point efforts from Okorougo and Vetter to lock up the 86-63 victory.
 The Cardinals edged the Bantams on the glass, 39-34, while Trinity controlled the paint, 34-26, and bench points, 20-12. The Bantams connected on 32-of-62 (51.6%) from the floor, including 9-of-21 (42.9%) from three-point, and 13-of-17 (76.5%) from the foul line. Catholic shot 20-of-64 (31.2%) from the field, 7-of-25 (28%) from three-point, and 16-of-20 (80%) from the charity stripe.
