HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Baseball team defeated visiting Western Connecticut State University, 7-3, in a non-conference clash at Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium. With the win, the Bantams improve to 6-8 on the season, while the Wolves fall to 5-9 overall.

In the bottom of the second, the Bantams cracked the scoreboard as
Tyler Bernstein drew a leadoff walk, stole second and third base, and then scored on an RBI single from
Andrew Park to make it 1-0.
Cole Mascolo brought home
William Sawyer with a safety squeeze bunt, followed by an RBI single from Timmy Domizio to hand Trinity the 3-0 lead.

WestConn chipped away at the lead by plating a pair of runs in the top of the third on a Bantams throwing error, but Bernstein launched a solo home run over the right field fence to maintain a 4-2 lead for the Bantams. Trinity added another run in the bottom of the fourth behind an RBI fielder's choice from Mascolo.

Bernstein continued to be a terror on the basepaths in the fifth, stealing second and third, and then raced home on a double steal with
Brett Stone to extend the lead to 6-3. In the bottom of the eight, Timmy Domizio ripped an RBI triple to the right-centerfield gap, bringing home
Andrew Park to help send Trinity to the 7-3 victory.

Drew McGowan (1-0) earned the win, allowing three unearned runs on one hit with a career-high six strikeouts in five innings of work. The Bantams bullpen stepped up as
Jonathan Link,
Kieran McNamara,
Brendan Grady and
Thomas Fahey combined to limit WestConn to two hits over the final four innings.

Domizio went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Bernstein was 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and a career-high five stolen bases, the most in a game for a Bantam since 2012. Park added two hits, two runs and an RBI, and Mascolo posted an RBI and run scored in the win.

The Bantams will be back on the diamond when they kick off New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play with a road trip to Bowdoin College (12-2) for a weekend series beginning Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
