Baseball Walks Off Brandeis, 7-6

HARTFORD, Conn. – First-year Ryder Aubin delivered a clutch walk-off single with no outs in the ninth to send the Trinity College Baseball team to a 7-6 win visiting Brandeis University in their 2025 home opener at Murren Field at DiBenedetto Stadium Tuesday afternoon. The Bantams rise to 1-2 overall, while the Judges move to 2-4 on the season.

The Bantams wasted little time jumping on Brandeis starter Andrew Tringe as junior Tyler Bernstein laced a double to left center and then scored on an RBI single from first-year Aidan Stevenson. Bernstein came around to score on an RBI single by junior William Sawyer to make it 2-0. The Bantams left the bases loaded as Tringe logged a pair of strikeouts to halt the Trinity rally.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, Stevenson lifted an RBI sac fly to left field, but Tringe again limited the damage with a huge two-out strikeout with runners at second and third to keep the score at 3-0.

The Judges chipped away at the deficit in the top of the third as sophomore Connor Crowley singled to right field and then scored on a passed ball, followed by an RBI single from graduate Eddie Zanor to close the gap to 3-2.

With one out in the fourth, Bernstein ripped another double down the left field line, advanced to third on a groundout, and then scored as Stevenson powered an RBI triple off the centerfield fence to rebuild a 4-2 lead for Trinity.

Brandeis evened the contest in the top of the fifth as Zanor launched a two-run home run over the right-centerfield fence to knot the game at 4-4. Zanor struck again in the top of the seventh with a two-run double to left-center, putting Brandeis on top 6-4.

The Bantams rallied back as sophomore Cole Mascolo knocked a double down the first base line and scored on an RBI sac fly from first-year Brett Stone in the seventh, followed by a solo home run from Bernstein in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 6-6.

In the bottom of the ninth, Mascolo laced another double down the right field line to put himself in scoring position with no outs. Aubin knocked the game-winning hit through the right side, plating Mascolo and giving the Bantams the 7-6 win.

Trinity junior starter Joe Capano surrendered two runs, one earned, with five strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work, while senior Thomas Fahey earned the win in relief, and sophomore Brendan Grady punched out three batters in an inning of relief. Tringe allowed four runs on six hits with four strikeouts, while Lane took the loss in relief.
