HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Baseball squad and visiting Westfield State combined for 73 runs across a pair of games, including 42 runs in the opener, the most combined runs in a game in the last 25 years. Trinity fell to the Owls, 24-18, in the first game, and then took a 21-10 loss in the nightcap. The Bantams move to 1-4 on the season, while Westfield State holds a 3-1 record.

Game 1: Westfield State 24, Trinity 18
Junior
Dylan Schnitzer became the first Bantam since Matt Koperniak (2018) to hit for the cycle, capping the effort with two-run opposite field blast in the bottom of the seventh inning. Schnitzer went 4-for-5 on the day, scoring a career-high five runs and matching a career-high with five RBIs, along with two stolen bases. Sophomore
Cole Mascolo went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs, while senior
Tyler Bernstein drew four walks and scored a career-high five runs. First-years
Ryder Aubin and
Peter Beisel each knocked in a pair of runs.

The Bantams held a 6-1 lead after the first two innings, but the Owls scored 20 straight runs across the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth to build a 21-6 advantage. Trinity plated 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth to close the gap to 21-6, but the Owls added a trio of insurance runs in the top of the seventh to secure the 24-18 win.

Senior
William Sawyer went 2-for-3 at the dish, scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs, while Mascolo and
Jake Leonard tallied two RBIs apiece. Bernstein scored twice and drove in a run, and first-year
Aidan Stevenson went 1-for-4 with an RBI double.

The Owls got on the board early with five runs in the first and two in the second to hold a 7-0 lead. The Bantams whittled the gap to 8-4 after three innings, but Westfield State erupted for nine runs in the fourth to build a 17-4 lead. Trinity brought home six runs in the fifth, but the Owls added two more runs in the sixth to seal the 21-10 win.

The Bantams will be back on the diamond when they host Eastern Connecticut State ( ) in a non-conference clash at Murren Field at DiBenedetto Stadium Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
