FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Trinity College Men's Lacrosse team jumped on host Farmingdale State College early in a 13-6 win in the First Round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament at Rams Field Wednesday afternoon. The Bantams rise to 9-7 on the season, while the Rams wrap with a 16-4 mark.
Â
In the opening minute of play, the Bantams forced a turnover and
Jake Connors and
Jon Krikorian worked a give-and-go from behind the Rams net for the finish to stake Trinity to a 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later,
Bo Page intercepted a pass in the FSU zone and ripped an unassisted strike to the back of the cage, extending Trinity's lead to 2-0.
Â
Following a wide shot from
Colin Sullivan, Krikorian took the ball from behind the goal and beat Rams goalkeeper Dan Erler five-hole to make it a 3-0 game. In the ninth minute of action,
Jordan Opdahl made a huge save for the Bantams and lofted an outlet pass to
Ethan Lung, who found
Jay Ottomanelli on the wing for a top shelve goal, pushing Trinity ahead 4-0.
Â
The Rams found their first goal just over a minute later as Opdahl denied the initial shot from Thomas Stock, but Andrew Giovinco put home the loose ball rebound to cut the lead to 4-1. Â The Bantams responded as
Cam Elenteny found
Miles Harvey at the top of the attack zone and Harvey whistled a shot past Erler. With less than 2 minutes remaining in the first quarter, Sullivan curled around the Rams defense and tucked a low shot to the bottom corner of the net to put Trinity on top 6-1 heading into the second quarter.
Â
At the 11:28 mark, the Bantams continued rolling as Sullivan dished the ball to Ottomanelli, who put a Rams defender in a blender and fired a shot past Erler to make it 7-1.
Gerard O'Connor potted his first career goal as he worked his way around a Rams defender and placed a low shot past Erler to set the score at 8-1 with 7:50 on the clock. The Rams sandwiched a pair of goals around a tally from Connors to make it a 9-3 game at the half.
Â
Giovinco added to the Rams effort at the 6:19 mark of the third quarter, but the Bantams pulled away with three straight goals from Sullivan, Krikorian and Harvey to hand Trinity the 12-4 advantage. Adam Giovinco netted the final two goals for Farmingdale to narrow the gap to 12-6, but Ottomanelli delivered the exclamation point with less than two minutes to play to seal the 13-6 victory.
Â
The Bantams outshot the Rams, 41-36, and took the groundball battle, 37-29, while Farmingdale State edged Trinity in the faceoff circle, 11-10. Opdahl made a game-high 14 saves in the win, while Erler stopped 11 shots for the Rams.
Â
The Bantams advance to the Second Round for the second time in program history, and the first time since 2012. Trinity will face tenth-ranked York College of Pennsylvania (16-3) at Kinsley Field in York, Pennsylvania on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
