Bantams Battled, Fall to Undefeated Williams in NESCAC Opener

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College women's volleyball team dropped its second match of the season, falling to undefeated Williams College, 3–0, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) showdown Friday evening in Oosting Gymnasium. The Bantams move to 7–2 overall and 0–1 in league play, while the Ephs improve to 8–0, 1–0 in the NESCAC.

What Happened:

  • Williams took the match in three sets, highlighted by a competitive opening frame, 25–21.
  • The first set featured seven ties, with the last deadlock coming at 17–17 after sophomore Maya Hall tipped down a one-touch kill to briefly give Trinity its final lead.
  • In the second set, the Ephs broke away after a 9–9 tie, using a 15–4 surge to secure the frame. Eve Kaplan fueled the run with three service aces during a six-serve stretch.
  • Williams carried the momentum into the third, building a 16–9 lead and never looking back. Trinity managed 14 points in the final set, 12 of them on kills, including four from senior captain Ellie Gordon.
  • Gordon led the Bantams with nine kills, three digs, two solo blocks, and a block assist for a team-high 11.5 points. Caroline Howell added 11 assists, while Scarlett Jago paced the defense with 13 digs. Junior Chloe Gentile contributed two solo blocks and a block assist, and Hall chipped in with a block assist of her own.
  • For Williams, Kate Lane tallied 11 kills, while Keely Campuzano recorded a match-best 14. Morgan Daetz set the pace with 20 assists and six digs, while Kaplan stuffed the stat sheet with six aces, 16 digs, and four assists.
     

Inside the Numbers:

  • Williams edged Trinity in kills, 38–34.
  • The Bantams hit .119 on 126 swings, compared to the Ephs' .224 on 116 attempts.
  • Williams held narrow advantages in assists (32–29) and digs (52–50).
  • Trinity posted four solo blocks and four block assists, while Williams collected three solo and 14 block assists.
  • The Ephs dominated from the service line, 11–0 in aces.

The Bantams return to Oosting Gymnasium on Saturday, September 20, at 2 p.m. to continue NESCAC play against Middlebury College.
